Overview

Would you like to work with software experts?  Have the ability to publish your research, but also to further your software engineering skills in cyber security?  Be a part of cutting-edge research and engineering teams?  GrammaTech addresses the software challenges of the future, with an intellectually rich environment and great career growth opportunities. For more information on our research, visit https://www.grammatech.com/capabilities/.

The Senior Scientist role lies along a five-step ladder depending on experience:

  1. Senior Scientist 1
  2. Senior Scientist 2
  3. Senior Scientist 3
  4. Principal Scientist
  5. Senior Principal Scientist

All levels require performing original research, including designing, implementing, and evaluating techniques and algorithms.

Senior Scientists 1 work as individual contributors under the guidance of a Principal Investigator (PI). They design and implement research techniques, and help propose, plan, and manage research projects, as well as reporting and presenting research findings. As Senior Scientists are promoted to higher levels, they take on intellectual leadership and project management responsibilities. They serve as PIs on contracts, write proposals and publications, drive a research agenda, help steer company-wide technology strategy, and maintain an external presence in the research community.

We are seeking a candidate to join us at any level of this ladder, depending on their experience.

Location:  Remote in US

Responsibilities

All Senior Scientists take on the following responsibilities, to an extent appropriate for their level.

  • Generate ideas for innovative solutions, from the literature and from original research, that address identified needs.
  • Translate research ideas into working prototypes, whether through individual contributions or by leading a team. During this effort, identify risks, plan work, monitor progress, review designs and code used in prototypes, and adapt plans.
  • Document research in written reports.  Present results at meetings with research sponsors.
  • Promote research results in blogs, external presentations, and peer-reviewed publications. Represent the company in external events such as conferences
  • Keep abreast of developments in relevant field(s) by reading research publications, exchanging ideas with colleagues, and participating in conferences.
  • Build and maintain relationships with research sponsors.
  • Participate in or lead writing proposals for contracts to procure external research funding.
  • Propose and pursue strategies to turn research prototypes into successful products.
  • (Level 3 and above) Plan and manage work taking into consideration available resources, including funding, time, and team-member expertise.  Prioritize goals to maximize success on key objectives.
  • (Level 3 and above) Participate in technology steering and planning: build and maintain research roadmaps, contribute to the company’s research, technical, and business goals, monitor and predict relevant scientific and funding trends.
