    GrammaTech is looking for a general accountant. This very hands-on accounting position will focus on processing payroll, maintaining all payroll-related general ledger accounts, and will be responsible for the reconciliation and accuracy of those accounts. Research and advise on the accounting treatment of complex payroll and benefits transactions (multi state, international presence). Function as the liaison for payroll accounting related questions with various parties throughout the company. In addition, the role will fulfill general accounting responsibilities, independently or under supervision.

    Responsibilities

    Accounting

    • Allocate benefits and time-sheet based labor to various accounts
    • Serve as primary contact for employee timekeeping questions
    • Assist with the month-end close including the preparation and processing of journal entries
    • Prepare monthly and year-end account reconciliations
    • Assist in the fiscal year-end closing processes and compile information needed for audits and tax returns
    • Provide solutions for ad-hoc information requests; analyze and report on financial and operational data
    • Perform or assist with regulatory compliance research and reporting
    • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company guidelines and US GAAP
    • Assist in all areas of Accounting as needed; perform special projects etc

     

    Payroll

    • Calculate and process semi-monthly payroll and quarterly commission/pension
    • Serve as primary contact for 3rd party processors and vendors. Resolve issues/errors as necessary
    • Record payroll entries to the general ledger
    • Perform monthly reconciliation of payroll and benefit accounts
    • Coordinate with HR and/or set up New Hires, process changes, terminations, direct deposit, taxable fringe benefits, and deductions
    • Calculate, reconcile and monitor various benefit amounts (Short Term Disability, Paid Family Leave, Paid Time Off, Overtime and special payments)
    • Track, monitor and report Paid Time Off status
    • Prepare various reports (financial and analytical) from Excel and ADP Reporting
    • Handle payroll related inquiries from employees and departments
    • Liaison for insurance on payroll side (workers compensation, disability)

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements/Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field and at least 2 years of experience working in accounting/payroll, or
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience

    Critical Skills

    • Forward thinking mentality with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
    • Customer-oriented with strong ability for trouble-shooting and issue resolution
    • Articulate and able to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with all internal parties and 3rd party payroll providers (domestic and international)
    • Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and used it with regularity in most recent work assignments. Proficient in other MS applications
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of US GAAP principles and internal control environments
    • Knowledge of accounting systems (QuickBooks preferred)

    Additional Knowledge and Skills

    • Prior knowledge of Time keeping systems preferred
    • Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now, inclusive of Reporting functions preferred
    • Knowledge of government cost accounting (FAR, proposal preparation) a plus
    • Process improvement exposure preferred
    • Experience working in a team environment
    • Flexible to changing needs of the business environment
